Moors in Venice

Commedia dell’arte at Ranelagh with this adaptation of Shakespeare.

About

Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, Othello and Romeo and Juliet, Moors in Venice is in the classic tradition of Commedia dell’arte: farce, magic interventions, duels, absurd twists and turns, songs, music and theatrical coups… All written and directed by Carlo Boso, the famous Italian maestro!

Antonio, a fisherman in search of his fortune, decides to borrow three thousand ducats from the usurer Shylock in order to seduce Benilde, a Venetian noblewoman. At the same time, Shylock’s daughter Jessica falls in love with a notorious Moorish pirate, angering her father. The intrigue and misunderstandings have only just begun…
