About

Molière’s art of ‘poking fun at the folly of men’ is expressed in this modern classic masterpiece.

In addition to the jubilant psychiatric analysis of avarice through the character of Harpagon and the formidable exposition of the generational conflict, the play is distinguished by a theatrical profusion that blends love and family intrigues in a style in which Molière delights in bringing together the natural language of Harpagon and the more sophisticated language of the other characters.

But Molière’s great genius lies above all in his ability to make the audience laugh with a main character who is obnoxious, tyrannical, egotistical and sickly stingy.
