The Misanthrope

Contemporary with the greatest respect for the text.

About

After three Avignon Festivals and over 100 performances, Thomas Le Douarec's contemporary adaptation of Molière's original text is a joyful addition to our programme of classics!

Alceste hates worldliness, refuses to compromise and denounces the hypocrisy of his fellow men. Yet he is madly in love with Célimène, a young, beautiful widow who is coquettish and self-indulgent. In this dark comedy, Molière asks whether it is possible to be happy and free in a society consumed by appearances and pretence.

A moment out of time! Where laughter merges with introspection: how many Alcestes do I have and in what situation? I left smiling and pensive at the same time. The presentation of the actors at the end of the play is a spectacle in itself!
