Love’s Second Surprise
"Put yourself in the shoes of a bored widow..."

You don’t mess about with doubt!
The baron is to marry the countess, and the marquis, the beautiful Marguerite. Through a series of delightful exchanges, this quartet of lovers explores pride, inconsistency, desire, the fear of commitment and doubt. And when jealousy comes into play…
In this comedy, Musset conveys the confusion of emotions with humour and grace. Through his four characters, we see the traits that characterised his youth: sincerity, brilliance, lyricism and sensitivity. Published in 1858, the play was included in the Comédie Française’s repertoire 100 years after the author’s death.
Gilles Dyrek, a writer and director who has been nominated several times for the Molière Award for Best Comedy, has adapted this light-hearted play by Musset, inspired by the Bequests by Marivaux.
