Five activities to do with a child aged 3 to 5?
It's not always easy to find interesting and fun activities for young children that are also suitable for parents!
Children need to be on the move, they are exceptionally curious but they also have a more limited capacity for concentration than we do, and sometimes, it's true, you don't feel like reading the same book again or playing with dolls or trains - and that's perfectly normal!
So here are five activities that you might not think of, but which are really fun to do with your little ones!
1. Exploring nature
Children love to explore and discover the world around them. A walk in the woods or a trip to the park - nothing very original you might say! But what if you added a treasure hunt to the mix? Invite your children to pick up a leaf, put some water on the ground or look at a snail... You can plan the objects to be picked up in advance and name them with your child, or leave them free to take them home to find out what the leaf or mushroom is called!
2. Going to the theatre: a magical experience
Children's theatre is both educational and fun. For children aged 3 to 5, there are shows adapted to their ability to concentrate and understand. These performances are often short (30 to 45 minutes) and focus on visuals, music and emotions.
Theatre is an excellent way of fostering cultural awareness, with stories that often convey simple, universal messages (friendship, nature, creativity) that resonate with young children.
For us, the big plus of theatre is sharing a unique moment as a family! You get to share the same experience as your child, and after the play you can share your feelings, your understanding and your interpretation.
3. Reading together
Reading is a calm and enriching activity. Choose illustrated books with simple, engaging stories. Story time, either at home or at a local library, is an excellent way to stimulate their imagination while sharing a bonding moment.
Don't hesitate to ask your child to read you a book - even if they can't read, you'll be amazed at their imaginative powers!
4. Cooking with your child
Why not get your child to help you prepare a meal or snack? Put them on a chair so they're at the right height and show them how to make pancakes, tomato sauce, quiche or soup!
For this activity, don't hesitate to buy kitchen knives that are suitable for children! That way, you won't have to worry about anything and your child will have more freedom!
5. Creating a motor skills course at home
Turn your living room into an adventure playground! With a few cushions, chairs, ribbons and cardboard, create a tailor-made motor skills course! Have your child crawl under a table, jump from one cushion to another as if crossing a river, or balance on a line of tape. It's a simple, fun activity that's ideal for burning off their energy!
